Frank Pachmayr embarked upon his gunsmithing career at the very outset of the Great Depression and rose to international prominence. Pachmayr is conceded to be the first to improve the U.S. Military Model 1911A1/Colt Government Model into today's most popular combat/target pistol. He originated the modern rubber recoil pads and neoprene pistol grips that still bear his name. He created some of the most valuable, beautifully engraved and gold-inlaid rifles and shotguns ever seen. Pachmayr made major contributions to America's armaments through two major wars and pioneered research into many of today's most modern weapons systems. This is his story.
